#SeasonalSonnets: 18th Dec.

Hello my lovely readers!

Before I (briefly) explain tonight's entry, I want to take a moment to thank you for sticking with this project for the past eighteen days. It means an awful lot, especially as I know that there are many other things to occupy your attention at this time of year. The reason I wanted to say this today, particularly, will hopefully be clear from the sonnet. I appreciate you greatly.

Today I've been working on the bibliography for the next big submission for my PhD, and it's been rather a faff...mostly because I've had to amalgamate several different versions, all of which conform to different style requirements. So, as per, I've turned a palaver into poetry!

18th December

Today I have worked on the bibliography
forming a part of my next big submission –
and so I thought I’d write of what a slog it’s been
to make sure every source is in position.
Thing is, over years of education,
each uni’s used a different ‘style guide’ –
so each time I have to alter the formation,
despite sources often needing to collide*.
Since, usually, this just affects the order
but leaves the words, my task today has meant
many an hour on making titles bolder
or more italicised, has now been spent.
Once started, though, who knows when I’ll be done?
For as I read, more entries will be sprung...

*i.e. I’ve used the same sources in multiple pieces of work (without self-plagiarising – disability studies is still a rather small field!), so the reference could just be transferred over, if it weren’t for the different style requirements...!
