#SeasonalSonnets 2017: 5th December

Hello my lovely readers

A short post to accompany my #SeasonalSonnets entry again as it's been an intense but lovely day. I taught a seminar on South African and British disability theatre, so I've used that for my topic, as my 'third-culture kid' self was very happy. It's also in honour of the fourth anniversary of Tata Madiba (Nelson Mandela's) passing.

5th December 2017

Tonight my thoughts are with my home, SA
whose theatre was the subject of my teaching.
I hope I left the students with a way
to understand how cultures are far reaching.
And also how a theory may not fit
outside contexts in which it was created;
we humans are made up of many bits
and sometimes boxes are a fuel for hatred.
In this I was inspired by Madiba
who left us, now, four years ago today.
I wonder what he, as both man and leader,
about the world’s state since, would have to say?
Perhaps his mem’ry can be a reminder
to all of us, to be a little kinder.

  1. For a man who endured so much hatred, Madiba was the kindest man. If only our African leaders are half the man he was.......
    Great sonnet by the way xxx
